Event Details

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is holding a debate on 'Measuring National Well-being: Is Happiness the Answer?' at the London School of Economics on Thursday 27th January. This supports the national debate on measuring national well-being.

Media and public interest in the national debate on the measurement of well-being has been high since the National Statistician accepted the Prime Minister's request to lead the debate. ONS is looking to develop measures that go wider than GDP to effectively assess the nation's well-being. We want to debate whether a measure of happiness is enough to capture the well-being of our nation and what other measures should be taken into account.

The event will take place at the New Theatre, East Building, London School of Economics from 6.30 to 7.30pm. An informed panel, Aileen Simkins (ONS), Trevor Phillips (EHRC), Professor Paul Dolan (LSE) and Bridget Rosewell (Volterra Consulting) will be chaired by the BBC's Mark Easton who will take audience questions and comments for discussion and debate.

If you wish to attend this event please download a free ticket using this website and take the opportunity to propose a question for the panel.

Look forward to seeing you at what promises to be an interesting, topical and lively discussion.

Please note that this is a public event and is open to the media. Photographs and video will be taken and the content used for further promotion of the National Well-being debate.
